What is Krav Maga & What You Will Learn in Classes?

Krav Maga is a practical self-defence system designed for real-world situations — the kinds of moments that can happen at work, in public places, or during everyday life.

With regular training you'll develop comprehensive self-defence skills by training from a structured international curriculum. You'll be guided every step of the way by experienced & certified instructors.

You're going to learn some pretty effective self defence techniques in our classes but most people want to avoid fighting if possible. Classes also cover soft skills such as awareness, boundary setting, verbal de-escalation, and decision-making. Learning these, alongside effective physical techniques gives you clear options if a situation becomes unsafe. Having both allows you to respond appropriately — without overreacting, freezing, or relying on guesswork.

Because real situations are unpredictable and fast-moving, training includes carefully structured scenarios. This helps students practise staying calm, making safer choices, and responding with confidence under pressure.

Training is supportive, engaging, and genuinely satisfying. Over time, people don’t just learn techniques — they feel more prepared, capable, and grounded in everyday life.

Who This Training Suits

Most people training here on the North Shore are adults who are new to martial arts, returning to exercise after time away, or simply looking for practical self-defence without pressure or ego.

Classes are structured and controlled, with an emphasis on safety and learning at a steady pace. You don’t need prior experience or a high level of fitness to start — confidence and capability are built gradually through training.

What to Expect in Classes

Our classes are dynamic, engaging, and hands-on, while being clearly structured and well coached. Everything is explained and demonstrated, so beginners can learn practical self-defence skills progressively and at a manageable pace.

You’ll train with partners you're level in a controlled and safe setting, with instructors actively coaching when needed.

Conditioning is included to support your training, but you’re encouraged to work at a level that’s right for you and build up over time.

Your Krav Maga Instructors

Experienced, Approachable Krav Maga Instructors You Can Trust

Aaron & Brad are your North Shore Krav Maga instructors.

Everyone starts somewhere, and our job is to help you build confidence and capability through regular, well-guided training.

Our focus is on helping you learn clearly, safely, and at a pace that works for you. We help you understand what you’re learning and why it works — not just to demonstrate techniques and move on.

During class, we actively coach and support you. We offer corrections, adjustments, and options so you can train at a level that’s appropriate for where you’re at.

Our training follows a structured, internationally recognised Krav Maga curriculum, and we are certified by Krav Maga Global. This ensures consistent standards, clear progression, and practical self-defence skills that are relevant to real-world situations.

Structured Progression & Levels

Learn From an International Krav Maga Curriculum

Training follows a clear level-based progression, giving you goals to work toward as your skills develop.

Each level builds on what you’ve already learned, helping you improve step by step rather than all at once. Levels are there to provide direction and motivation — not pressure — and you’re encouraged to progress when you feel ready.

Many students find the level system helpful because it gives structure to their training and a clear sense of progress over time, while still allowing everyone to train and improve at their own pace.
